Board Director

Krishna Tejo

Krishna Tejo is the Chair, President, and founder of American Affinity.

Krishna Tejo is a pre-medical student at the College of William and Mary majoring in Computational Applied Mathematics and Statistics with a concentration in Biology. Krishna has always been passionate about giving back to her community, especially those who are in disadvantaged positions. She started pursuing this passion at the young age of 13 when she started volunteering as a counselor at Camp CAMP that works to help the neurodivergent community. Driven to continue to help Krishna volunteered at various local hospitals, clinics, and local fire stations as an EMT. Krishna shadowed physicians at George Washington University Hospital and later traveled to India using a research grant where she analyzed medical under service while shadowing an obstetrician/ gynecologist in a rural hospital. Here, she understood the extent to which poverty and consequent lack of access to resources have on the quality of life whether you live in the cities of Washington D.C or a rural village in India.

Her experiences coupled with her work as an EMT during the pandemic, propelled her to establish American Affinity with support from like-minded so that individuals and households in need may receive direct and most effective cash grants.

Stephen Whitney  is a retired project manager and IT specialist who has had a life-long second career in charitable community service. His volunteer work includes over twenty years in early childhood and family literacy support and promotion for the non-profit Institute for the Study of Human Knowledge. As a board member of the Association of Federal Information Resource Management, he managed for three years a program of distinguished speakers at monthly luncheon meetings and published a monthly newsletter. As a member of his hometown’s Committee on the Environment in Takoma Park MD he led an innovative study to measure the value of trees in urban settings in reducing energy consumption for home air conditioning. And for the past three years, he has served on a food rescue team for the non-profit Small Things Matter, which picks up aging produce and vegetables at large distributors and supermarkets in the Washington DC area and delivers them to volunteers who ensure that they quickly get into the refrigerators of underserved families suffering from food shortages, instead of being thrown into landfills where they off-gas methane into the atmosphere. For American Affinity, Steve advises on fundraising strategies and outreach activities to identify institutional and individual donors with giving missions that intersect with the priorities of the organization.
